The Write Journey
This workshop takes place in four sessions presented by Daniel Dercksen from The Writing Studio
Session one : The Write Journey – Taking ownership of your story/ controlling the writing process from inspiration to first draft/ How to read a film. (Wednesday, June 29: 10 am to 12noon)
Session two : The Write Idea – knowing what to write / Criteria for a great idea/ Mastering the art of conceptualising ideas/ Exploring your theme. (June 30 from 10am until 12noon)
Session three : The Write Characters – Defining and developing characters. (June 30 from 3pm until 5pm)
Session four : The Write Structure – the art of plotting your story/ 14 structural points to shape your story. (July 1 from 10am until 12noon)
Daniel Dercksen, the driving force behind the successful independent training initiative The Writing Studio, has been a published film and theatre journalist for 30 years and has been teaching workshops in creative writing, playwriting and screenwriting throughout South Africa the past 19 years, working passionately with emerging writers and storymakers on their respective stories. His play The Beauty of Incomplete Things enjoyed great success in Cape Town and Johannesburg in 2014 and is being developed into a feature film.
Graduates of his workshops include filmmaker Sallas de Jager (Free State, Roepman, Verraaiers, Musiek vir die agtergrond and Stuur Groete aan Mannetjies Roux), Henk Pretorius (Leading Lady, Bakgat, Fanie Fourie Se Lobola, Modder en Bloed), and John Barker (Spud 3: Learning to Fly, Bunny Chow and How To Steal a Million).
Daniel has now relocated to Prince Albert to develop the write attitude in the Great Karoo.
